As one of the first beneficiaries of the Magnolia Incentive Bursary it is a great pleasure to continue to support its work as I am indebted to the financial and pastoral support that I have received over the course of my academic adventure across Europe.

In 2004 it all began when I embarked upon a four-year degree at Sheffield University where I read French and Journalism at a time before tuition fees became exorbitant. My third-year was spent living in Bordeaux, southern France where I studied Journalism before returning to Sheffield the year after. After graduating I enrolled onto a Masters course in European Politics read at both Kings College London and Sciences Po Paris, following which I moved to Brussels where as a stagiaire at the European Parliament I joined the press corps reporting on historic events that have profoundly changed how the EU works, such as the coming into force of the Lisbon Treaty.

I feel I owe a great deal to the Magnolia Incentive for their support during this time, and with tuition fees at such levels that deter many from heading to University and those who do leaving with a huge burden of debt, their work is most welcome.

I continue to work in Brussels and currently work as a political assistant for Europe’s first, and one of its largest, pan-European political parties. I have also had the tremendous pleasure of being a parliamentary assistant for one of the South West region’s elected MEPs working to ensure that the West Country benefits as much as possible from our country’s position at the heart the European Union.

I regularly write a blog which is surprisingly widely read on the major EU issues and decisions concerning the South West UK region and the contributions of our region’s six MEPs in Europe. You can find this at
