After winning the Magnolia Incentive bursary in 2005, I went on to study for a degree in Zoology at the University of Sheffield. The 5,000 bursary money was a huge help to me during my studies. It allowed me to buy course materials, attend a field trip to the Bornean rainforest during my third year, and travel around Indonesia participating in marine conservation projects which would not have been possible without the help of the MI.

I used the skills gained during my BSc to go on to complete a Masters in Conservation Science at Imperial College London. After completing my MSc in 2010, I have worked at a number of environmental organisations in both research and policy. I now work in London as a Manager for the Whitley Fund for Nature, a charity that funds grass-roots conservation projects in developing countries.

Throughout I have benefitted from the help and support from my bursary mentors and the network of MI bursary winners.

I am extremely grateful to the founders of the MI, who have since helped fund over 30 more young people through higher education - a truly wonderful charity. | Martin Gill 07983 478571 | Mandy Parker 07834 771818
